Most of us find ourselves in such situations where our loved one's need help from us, But We are not sure what to say and what to not say to them. We want to calm them with our words and be careful not to trigger any emotions that might hurt them. Most of the people will only choose to give the most common and not so helpful advice which is — “Move on!”

The worst advice people give is to “forget it” or “distract yourself” or move on. The reason these suggestions suck is that if they could, they would. They wouldn’t wait. They need to know how.

Basically, you don’t want to forget anything. And I don’t really think humans forget anything. It just gets pushed back until someone or something reminds you of it again.

But what you can do is not ignore what you’re feeling. You should properly feel, live, and breathe in the thing that is upsetting you. Instead of running from it, you let it hit you. Trust me, this will hurt less.

When you acknowledge something instead of resisting it, you give it peace. Then you will invite new things into your life. You have already felt and passed on from what was upsetting you. The difference will be, if someone or something reminds you of it in the future, you won’t run or resist. You may cry but you’ll be alright. That is when you truly realize you have moved on from something or someone.

That’s why many people choose not to express themselves to anyone. Some people wouldn’t understand, some would sympathize, but it’s very hard to find someone who would empathize.
